Brown Sugar Syrup & Brown Sugar Latte Recipes for Your At Home Bar

Posted by Nicole Chenault on

Starbucks just came out with their Brown Sugar syrup last year and it was ALL the rage. In fact, it was SO popular, as soon as they came out with it, it went out of stock–at least where we live–for MONTHS because they couldn’t keep up with demand. So, as a Starbucks addict–and more specifically, a shaken brown sugar espresso addict–I had to make do.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I taught myself how to create the PERFECT brown sugar syrup for at home use. Now, I can make myself delicious Starbucks brown sugar lattes and shaken espressos drinks whenever I want! Even IF they run out of it in stores. And how could I gatekeep this incredibly valuable information? The secret to happiness? I could never. Of course I have to share these recipes with you. Let’s dive in!

Brown Sugar Syrup

Ingredients:

½ cup light brown sugar

⅓ cup pure maple syrup

1 cinnamon stick

⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt

5 tbsp cool water

How to Make:

Add all ingredients to a small saucepan, cook over medium heat until all of the sugar has dissolved–about 1 - 2 minutes. Then, you’ll let the syrup cool in the saucepan. Once your syrup has cooled, you can transfer your syrup into a reusable bottle WITH the cinnamon stick. Be sure you’re able to tightly seal this bottle. Allow your cinnamon to steep in the sealed bottle with the syrup for at least 24 hours at room temperature.

Once your syrup has steeped, you can remove the cinnamon stick & keep the syrup in your refrigerator for 4 - 5 months!

Brown Sugar Latte

Ingredients:

1 cup Milk of choice

1 tbsp Brown Sugar Syrup

2 shots of Espresso (can be subbed for cold brew or strong coffee)

Ground Cinnamon to garnish

How to Make:

In order to make the perfect latte, you’ll want to start by steaming your milk. If you have a milk frother, now is the perfect time to whip it out & start steaming your milk. If not, you can warm your milk up on the stove & use a frothing wand to create foam before you pour it into your latte.

Once you have your milk frothed, you’ll want to go ahead and pour your espresso shots. Do this after your milk is frothed so that the crema doesn't dissipate! If you’re just using cold brew or coffee, you can disregard this step.

Now that you have your milk frother and your espresso shots poured, grab your favorite coffee mug, pour in an ounce of your Brown Sugar Syrup, then your expresso, and then your steamed milk. Garnish with ground cinnamon on top and enjoy!
